Club league Round 1, Pine Forest TT 03/04/14.

The 2014 club league is kicking off next Thursday with the Pine forest prologue TT. This course has been used by the women's league for past four years, and has proven a popular starting point.

The course is just short of 5K, and rises gradually for the first 4 of that before kicking up sharply in the final kilometre. Mapmyride link.

Race HQ will be in the Pine forest arts centre, at the halfway point along the course. There is car parking there, but not a huge number of spaces, so the more people who cycle up to it the better.

This year we be trialling a system of online registration for the Time Trials, using a dedicated thread here.

The car park will be open from 18:00, and the first rider will be off at 19:00. A start list will be published the night before giving your start time, so you should show make sure you know when your own start is, and show up to the start line at least 3 minutes before your start time.

There is to be no warming up on the course, so when you are ready to go you should spin down to the start (2.5k from the sign-on), and do any further warming up in the area of Glencullen village.

TT bikes/wheels and aero kit are all allowed, though they won't provide a massive advantage on this course. I strongly recommend using a rear light, as it will be getting dark as later finishers are returning.

If you catch another rider (good for you!) check that there is no traffic coming up behind you before pulling out, and give them loads of room as you pass. Remember they may have no notion that you're steaming through until you have actually passed them. On the other hand, if you are caught, keep on going at your own pace, don't be tempted to try sit on to the rider who has passed you.

When you cross the finish line roll on through, pull over further down the road and don't turn around before checking that it is safe to do so. Anyone doing a U-turn in the vicinity of the finish line will be disqualified. Please don't hassle the timekeepers for your time- there's no problem asking, but make sure to do it at a time when there aren't any riders coming in.

There are placings (points) for the 6 fastest riders in each ability group, so 24 placings to compete for altogether, but beyond that every finisher will get a time, so no matter how badly you think you might fare it will be worth your while giving this one a blast.

Depending on where exactly you are marshalling you should be finished sometime between 19:40 and 19:55. It'll be getting dark around 8ish, so anyone who is cycling home will need lights.

Will a PDF do? www.orwellwheelers.org/images/docs/cl2014_r0.pdf

It'll leave you confused with the results, but should be able to see the cats okay.

Another stupid question. Last year there was a sign on which closed 10 (?) mins before the racing. Is this the case also for the TT? Or is it ok to sign on (arts centre?) appropriately to our start times?

If you have registered in advance through the forum then you do not have to sign on on the night, just show up at the start line (Glencullen crossroads) at least three minutes before your appointed start time.

There will be sign on on the night for anyone who hasn't already registered, and the arts centre is also there for car parking, changing and toilets for anyone who needs it.

Generally speaking, people have been put in the same group they finished last year in.

Given the form you've shown already this season, I wouldn't worry about holding anyone up in SS.

I know it's after the cut off for online reg, but just so you know I will take Kilian Doyle's place in the TT if that's okay, as he's going to marshal for me. If it's an issue let me know.

Just a final reminder of a few things:

If you are already on the start list you don't need to go to the arts centre, you can just show up at the start line at least three minutes before your start.

There are toilets and car parking at the arts centre- there is to be no parking at the start, and absolutely no public urination anywhere.

If you aren't pre-registered you are still welcome, the earlier you show up the earlier you'll get slotted in.

Folks just to reiterate Dave Mc's earlier point about urinating in public or adjacent to any houses on any of the circuits we use for the club league.

The Vets racing league have had to cancel next Sundays race for exactly this reason due to the actions of one rider prior to last Sunday's race.

If anyone needs to answer natures call can we all ensure that we move away to somewhere completely out of view and away from any properties. If you spot anyone not doing this please make them aware of the possible implications on the league as it is becoming a major issue for residents along the racing courses and we need to manage this issue to avoid any complaints.

Thanks,
