Hi all

Delighted to announce that this year in the Club League we'll have a Ladies Championship.
It seems fitting that this is announced on the same day as Emily Brick has announced herself to the women's racing world with a her debut open race which she just won in the Traders's Cup! Chapeau Emily! Amazing result in your 1st race.

The idea came about after myself and few others competed and spectated at the Club Road Race Championship in Mondello last year and saw Helen Horan come home 1st woman but there was only 4 in the race so unfortunately Helen didn't qualify for the Club Champion Medal. That race that day was the quickest and toughest race of the whole league and when the scratch guys caught us every one of us were shelled out the back leaving the scratches with a few semi scratch guys....and Helen. She held on in an unbelievably herculean performance to be in the top half of the bunch in the sprint. For me and many watching it was the performance of the year.

We now have the best bunch of racing women this club has ever seen with upwards of 20 women at a high enough level for Ras na mBan to be a realistic aim later in the season. This idea is to bring those ladies onto the next level. Alongside the Tuesday night racing etc participating in the club league will provide the ladies with a massively important and high end training that will allow them to compete in Ras on both teams that we will hopefully enter.

Points for Signing on: 1
Then, if there are two or more in a race, 3 points to first woman.
If there are three or four in a race, 3 points for first, 2 for second
And if there are five or more, give 5,3,1

Award points for each race that has two or more women in it, so in Corkagh for example there'd be two sets of points up for grabs.
Treat each individual TT as four separate races, so potentially four sets of points available.

Last year we had somewhere between 2-4 women turn up each week. I want to see 15-20 each week by the end of the year.

I'm happy to sponsor a few prizes for the top 3 overall at the end of the league
1st Prize: €100 Voucher for Baggot Street Wines and the Cavern Wine Bar
2nd Prize: €50 Voucher for Baggot Street Wines and the Cavern Wine Bar
3rd Prize: €25 Voucher for Baggot Street Wines and the Cavern Wine Bar

We will also have the traditional trophy for 1st Prize, won by Ann, Lucy, Aideen, Rachel and co over the last few years. I'm also looking to hustle up a few prizes from other businesses within the club for specific races and even primes etc on the Corkagh circuits. If you are interested in sponsoring a prize let me know!

I'm hoping to do up a small brief write up of the womens results and overall standings each week on the forum but would be more than happy to off load this to anyone that fancies it!

Very straight forward. Easy to understand rules...all we need now is more women to sign up for the club...so what are you waiting for.? Get signed up now! The deadline is Feb 28th for the club league so sign up now,

unfortunately Helen didn't qualify as Club Champion.

That's entirely incorrect. Link.

Medals are only awarded if there are 5 or more riders in any championship, Helen is the Club Road race champion regardless of that.

Hi all

A record 28 Ladies signed up for the Orwell Club League! A fantastic championship ahead is promised with the inaugural ladies championship set to go from strength to strength....

Remember the scoring is as follows:

Points for Signing on: 1

If there are two or more in a race,
1st 3 Pts

If there are three or four in a race,
1st 3 Pts
2nd 2 Pts

If there are five or more,
1st 5 Pts
2nd 3 Pts
3rd 1 Pts

Award points for each race that has two or more women in it, so in Corkagh for example there'd be two sets of points up for grabs.(limit and then scratch)
Treat each individual TT as four separate races, so potentially four sets of points available.
If we have a DMS night of 4 separate races we have the potential for 4 sets of points for the ladies championships etc.

Overall Prizes for 1st-3rd as above and I hope to have ad hoc prizes for certain races throughout year and potentially even a prime prize on some of the crits. Any donated prizes would be most appreciated.

I want to publish up a weekly results post on the forum for each week and a overall league table for the championship too but if any ladies out there would like to take this on I'd be over the moon to pass it on and let you take care of that...just let me know!

The good news is we have now 28 women signed up to the league. Many of them are in their rookie year with Orwell and quite a few of them are graduates of Ann Horan's ladies beginner course from last Summer.
That's a massive increase on previous years. We previously use to have 2-4 average every Thursday night and we look set to get 10+ min each week for the upcoming season. Women represent about 15% of the overall league and the future of Orwell ladies racing is looking very very bright as we look to send 2 excellent teams to race(and challenge!) at Ras na mBan 2016

Happy racing ladies.

Many thanks to Breda Horan for volunteering to take over the running of the Ladies Championship each week.
Breda will keep track of the points weekly and for the Championship.
It's brilliant to see so many ladies signed up to the league and in Breda(as with all the Horans) you get the best of organisers too...we just need to get a few more signed up for this Thursday's Pine Forest TT now!

So after 3 Rounds of the Club League here is the scores on the doors of the Ladies Championship so far! Thanks again to Breda for compiling the results weekly.

29 Women signed up for the Club League

12 Women have competed so far in at least 1 of the events(come on! we can do better!)

The full link to the results is here on the site on the bottom right corner and on the tab women
www.orwellwheelers.org/images/docs/cl2016_r3.xlsx

The Current Podium is as follows
1st Breda Horan 10 points
2nd Yvonne Doran 6 points (rookie of the year leader)
3rd Rachel Glendon and Monica Marconi 4 points.
Followed closely by Sandra Telford on 3 and Orla, Helen and Aideen all on 2.

The next 4 weeks should shake things up nicely as we have the Corkagh Crit tonight, the 10k TT next weekend then the Brittas CP as the 1st open road event and then the iconic Sally Gap race.

See above the prizes for 1-3rd for the overall championship. Plenty to play for. Also working on doing a prime prize for club champs to maximising the entries.

Best of luck to all.

So we're heading into the 1st open road race of the Club League and the Ladies Championship is nicely taking shape....
Copied from the main excel file on Club League on bottom right of website and on women's tab
Breda Horan S W L 16
Rachel Glendon S W L 14
Monica Marconi VET W SL 10
Yvonne Doran S W L 7
Sandra Telford S W SL 4
Orla Hendron S W SL 3
Aideen Keenan S W SS 3
Grainne Coghlan S W L 2
Helen Horan S W SL 2 1
Naoise Sheridan S W L 2
Charlotte StevensS W L 2
Rebecca Byrne S W L 2
Emily Brick S W SL 1
Kaska Ludwa S W L 1
Emma Molloy S W L 1
So 15 women have lined up as racers or marshals this year.

Breda is leading the way just ahead of comeback of the year contender Rachel and the form rider both club and open this year Monica. Yvonne is leading the charge for podium place and Rookie of the Year contender too.

Tomorrow's race is Brittas and most of you will have done the Women's league version Tuesday just gone so you all have a huge advantage know the course backwards!

Also now we're into May and the club league continues on Thursdays it's a brilliant opportunity for everyone aiming at Ras na mBan 2016 to fine tune your racing form by racing women only on Tuesday and with the limits/semi limits on Thursday. The best form of race training is racing and all that and the Club League is brilliant race practice for all the ladies.

Looking forward to seeing loads of you out tomorrow.

Remember prizes for the 1st 3 ladies overall this year
1st Prize: €100 Voucher for Baggot Street Wines and the Cavern Wine Bar
2nd Prize: €50 Voucher for Baggot Street Wines and the Cavern Wine Bar
3rd Prize: €25 Voucher for Baggot Street Wines and the Cavern Wine Bar

So 8 Rounds down and 13 to go!

The league table for the Ladies Championships so far
Monica Marconi VET W SL 26
Rachel Glendon S W SL 24
Breda Horan S W SL 20
Orla Hendron S W SL 8
Yvonne Doran S W L 7
Aideen Keenan S W SS 7
Sandra Telford S W SL 5
Rebecca Byrne S W L 4
Grainne Coghlan S W L 4
Helen Horan S W L 4
Charlotte Stevens S W L 4
Louise Keane S W L 3
Emily Brick S W SL 2
Ciara Kinch S W SS 2
Kaska Ludwa S W L 2
Naoise Sheridan S W L 2
Emma Molloy S W L 1
Louise Reilly S W L 1
Lucy Soden S W SL 1

We've had 19 out of the 27 women signed up for the league competed so far. It would be brillaint if we managed to get all 27 with at least 1 point by the end....

Last week was particularly excellent with 13 women either racing or marshalling for the Sally Gap race which I'm convinced is a record for the club league....chapeau ladies...

With the top 3 of Monica, Rachel and Breda all looking good for the podium, they've everything to fight for now as they all take part in Semi Limit. Plenty of opportunities each week especially for the limit riders to get back in the mix up for the championship as most of the races from here on will be CPs and limits getting decent handicaps on Monica, Rachel and Breda.

tomorrow's Black Bull circuit will suit most riders and a decent sprint finish is always handy....Brittas next week suiting the aggressive classic style riders followed by Mondello which is basically a big version of Corkagh so there is a course for everyone over the next 3 weeks...enjoy!

Garret

If you're new to Blackbull circuit are and don't know where it is there will be a group leaving the Popes Cross at 545pm to head out and you're more than welcome to join up with us there.

Dear all

So this Thursday brings along one of the biggest days in the Club League each year with the 2016 Road Race Championships with medals for both Men and Women on offer. Last year we only had 4 ladies on race night and hence there was no medals on offer so lets make sure this doesn't happen again and get the 5 needed to make this race one to remember!!

www.orwellwheelers.org/forum/racing/5656...r14-road-race-champs

even if you think you're not in the right shape for this turn up sign on and start...you never know how you'll go and after the 7 Orwell women did us proud with 2 top 15s on Sunday, Ladies Racing in the club has never looked better. Alongside the heroics of Michelle and Aideen in the top 15 were also Emily and Yvonne who started Ann's ladies beginner group last July and now are racing with the best of the best at the Nationals. From beginner lady to Nationals in 11 months....chapeau ladies.

The tale of the championships to date
Rachel Glendon S W SL 31
Monica Marconi VET W SL 26
Breda Horan S W SL 20
Aideen Keenan S W SS 13
Orla Hendron S W SL 13
Yvonne Doran S W L 8
Sandra Telford S W SL 5
Rebecca Byrne S W L 5
Helen Horan S W L 5
Louise Keane S W L 5
Grainne Coghlan S W L 4
Charlotte Stevens S W L 4
Emily Brick S W SL 4
Ciara Kinch S W SS 2
Kaska Ludwa S W L 2
Naoise Sheridan S W L 2
Emma Molloy S W L 1
Louise Reilly S W L 1
Lucy Soden S W SL 1
Toni Byrne S W L 0
Monica Coll S W L 0
Siobhain Duggan S W L 0
Rachael Kaye Mellor S W 0
Alexandria Krops U16 W L 0
Mairead Lyne S W 0
Brianne Mulvihill S W L 0
Ciara Ni Fhlathartaigh S W L 0

Rachel takes a slim lead from Monica with Breda hot on their heals. The 2 women to watch at this stage are Aideen and Orla in 4/5th who will no doubt be charging down the homestraight as we reach the last 1/4 of the season...

Best of luck to all on Thursday and please please please turn up, sign on and race!
