Dolomites tour - July 2020 was created by Shane Phelan
Looking to put an Orwell group together for a west to east tour across the Dolomites in the first half of next July (dates to be finalised, but most likely July 6-12) - going from the shores of Lake Como, north of Milan, to Cortina, north of Treviso and Venice.

It would be a fully supported week-long trip with five or six days riding, taking in all the climbs of the Maratona on the way.

The average daily ride would be around 100kms and bucket list climbs on the route include the Ghisallo, Gavia, Stelvio, Fedaia, Giau and Pordoi.

The trip would suit mid yellow level and above.

Aiming to progress this in the next few week. Anyone interested and looking for more information can contact me here:

To whet the appetite, here is the itinerary for the week:

Day One 6th July
Lecco
Arrive at 17.45 into Milan Malpensa. 45 min transfer to the hotel. Dinner at 19.30 and run through the week with mechanics on hand to help build bikes & fit rentals.

Day Two July 7th
Lecco to Presolana
Breakfast from 7am and meet at 8am for an 8.30am rollout. Today's ride is rolling throughout in the foothills of the Alps. Lunch at a cafe and then roll onto our finish for mid afternoon.
Ride Distance 104 km.
elevation Gain 3347 m.

Day Three July 8th
Presolana to Bormio
The queen stage. Out of Presolana we have two smaller climbs to get over before lunch in Ponto di Legno and then start the final climb, the might Passo Gavia. From the summit at a full 2,621m we descend all the way to our hotel in Bormio.
Ride Distance 125 km.
Elevation Gain 3900 m.

Day Four July 9th
Bormio to Bolzano
A day that starts difficult and ends easy. From the hotel we start climbing almost immediately as we head up to this week's Cima Coppi - the Passo Stelvio at 2,757m. This is one of the most famous climbs in cycling and the descent is thrilling down the famous hairpins. From here we roll together down the valley into the Dolomites in Bolzano.
Ride Distance 118 km.
Elevation Gain 1799 m.

Day Five July 10th
Bolzano to Corvara
We are in the heart of the Dolomites today and our ride gets more and more beautiful. We finish on the Sella Ronda climbing the classic Passo Pordio and finishing the the Passo Campolongo before descending into our hotel in one of the most stunning towns in Europe - Corvara.
Ride Distance 95 km.
Elevation Gain 3045 m.

Day Six July 11th
Corvara to Cortina
One final day in the Dolomites and it's a classic. Four climbs in glorious scenery. Starting with the Gardena & Passo Sella, we then head to the long and tough Passo Fedaia before the last climb of the day, the mighty Passo Giau, one of the toughest but more rewarding climbs in Europe. We finish in Cortina, the host of the Winter Olympics in 2026.
Ride Distance 91 km.
Elevation Gain 3100 m.

Day Seven July 12th
Cortina
Departure day. We run an final spin around Cortina to Tre Cime di Lavaredo at 8am before a shower, time to break down the bikes and head off to Treviso for the flight home

BIKES
If you don't fancy bringing your bike on the plane, there are decent rentals on offer as part of the package. Ridley Fenix SL with disc brakes & Ultegra groupset, with 50/34 x 11/30 gearing.

SUPPORT ON THE RIDES
There will be a support van and guides, similar to the Orwell Etape/Alps trip this year. So if someone is having a bad day or simply fancies a rest or a shorter ride they can jump in the van for a section.
