This year's hamper race event will be on Sunday 23rd December 11am, at Corkagh Park.

I appreciate that some people will be away, and I can only apologise, as there are a number of other club events in the preceding weekend days which we do not wish to conflict with.

We need donations from members for prizes - any cycling related items, along with the usual nice tins of biscuits or chocolates, bottles of wine etc. The club will provide the hamper.

The plan is (as usual) to run 2 races with prizes, and awards for best costumes too!
Senior riders (of any licence category) and older children are welcome to race.

The plan is to get started shortly after 11am, with a novelty race (probably a reverse win and out) followed by the hamper race for seniors and older children. Our social rep, Colm Featherstone, has kindly booked the Green Isle hotel at 12:30 for mince pies and tea/coffee.

So, if you like racing, or would like to try, or if you like mince pies, or banter, or all of the above, this is the event for you :)

Congratulations to defending champion Eoin Ahern who took the win in the hamper race again this year despite the terrible weather and having Eoin Byrne pushing him all the way to the line!

It was a smaller turnout than normal, the weather definitely made people think twice about racing this morning. Despite the quantity there was still plenty of quality on show!

In the reverse race on the small laps Ruairi Byrne tried to bridge across to the seniors and nearly made it - a few more seconds and he was there! He was rewarded for his efforts with 3rd place. Not long after his brother Eoin took second and then a few laps later it was down to the sprinters to fight it out for first. Track man Dmitri Griffin showed his power (and good bike handling!) to take the victory.

It was a shortened program of racing today due to the weather so the Hamper Race followed immediately - no rest for our racers today!

It was great to see Club Racing Rep Stephen O'Shea back racing and he took the Vets prize from Damian Long.

With only 3 laps to go Eoin Ahern and Eoin Byrne broke free and it was clear the champion would come from this pairing. Behind things were getting cagey as the group decided 3rd was the best they could fight for.

Rounding the final bend Eoin Byrne tried to get clear but Ahern bided his time and took the win by a bike length.

Thanks to everyone who took part but also a huge thanks to the organisors and helpers. It wasn't a day to be standing around in a bleak Corkagh Park! The mince pies and hot tea/coffee in the Green Isle Hotel was much appreciated by all
