While many of us are thinking of cancelled events & holidays, disrupted training and race schedules please spare a thought for all our club mates who probably won’t get much cycling in over the next while as they are nurses, doctors, paramedics, pharmacists and others involved in fighting on the front line for our health services.

On behalf of the committee and all the club THANK YOU and the best of luck!!

Hi all,

a reminder of the recommendations from cycling Ireland during the Covid-19 crisis:
“Cycling Ireland further advises all affiliated clubs to cancel all club training rides and club events until and including 29th March. Members are encouraged to cycle individually and not in groups.”

As a club we have cancelled all club spins and activities however it is very disappointing to hear of groups of 10 out, having coffee in Enniskerry and in club kit this morning. The world of social media has no secrets these days.

We have members or our Club who are on the front line, nurses, doctors, paramedics, who are risking their lives day in and day out to help reduce the spread of this virus. They do not have time to train so give them some respect and when you cycle do it on your own. We will have plenty of time later this year to cycle in good weather and together.

Just so you are aware, as of this afternoon we have 906 people in ROI with this virus. 177 are in hospital with 29 in ICU and 4 people have sadly died.

We have seen where this went in Italy, Spain and now France - it this keeps up we will be heading for a lock down.

Please be sensible - short term restrictions for the long term good.

I can't understand this behaviour when so many club members are doing as required and giving up group rides. Reckless behaviour by a few makes the whole club look reckless. Name and shame if it happens again.

27th March:

From midnight tonight, the Government is putting new restrictions in place until Easter Sunday.

PLEASE be sensible and follow the guidelines. If you want to train then get on the turbo or rollers and train indoors. If you need some fresh air then stay within 2km of home.

On behalf of myself and the club committee I want to express our thanks to everyone who has supported the Government Guidelines and Cycling Ireland (CI) position on cycling in the current difficult environment. I hope that you and your families are all well and continue to be in the coming weeks.

There has been a renewed emphasis on the importance of everyone adhering to the Government Guidelines this holiday weekend and I believe it’s important that we all play our part by continuing to support both the club and CI stated position. All club activities continue to be suspended until further notice and no club member should be cycling unless it’s in line with the exceptions outlined in Government communications.

It’s great to hear so many reports of club members participating in Zwift sessions, following training plans on the turbo, cycling on rollers and engaging in walking or other forms of limited exercise. In the coming days we will post some information on stretches, leg exercises, core work etc. and other house or garden-based exercises on the club forum to help keep up fitness, flexibility and motivation for our eventual return to the roads.

We all miss getting out on the open road especially as the weather improves however this is the time where we need to remain committed to supporting the Government, CI and Club position. If everyone keeps up the effort the quicker, we will get back to normal and contribute to the health and well being of club members, the cycling community, our families and friends and the public.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our members who are working on the front line, we really appreciate all your efforts and look forward to thanking you in person when this is all over.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy Easter – let’s do our bit to keep it that way for everyone.

regards
Louise Keane

Club President
On behalf of the club committee

Latest email to the club from Cycling Ireland.

We have been asked by the Department of Health & An Garda Síochána to remind all our cyclists of the Guidelines currently in place.
We know the vast majority of our members are respectful of the current guidelines, but a small number may not be.
We would appreciate if you could just remind all your members that the guidelines are still in place and encourage them to comply. If you could highlight the news item below with members and via social media that would be great.

I hope you are all keeping safe & healthy and wish you a lovely Easter.
Kind regards,

I know this does not apply to 99.99999% of our members and I apologize for sounding like a broken record but we would like remind people that despite the amazing weather we are still not back to operating as normal!

If you are cycling outdoors please adhere to the current guidelines:
1. Stay within 5km of home
2. Cycle alone or with members of your own household only

There is light at the end of the tunnel - 20km limit is coming and small group cycles too so please dont give up now.
