In. Same as last year, I'll go as far as the legs allow.

long and steep, painful, some rain forecast, crappy food, poxy coffee, too fast, overwhelming odds, little chance of success I might just try this, Jesus I need my head examined.

One last reminder this is happening tomorrow no matter what the weather.
Leaving 830 sharp. It's an extremely challenging route suited to orange level(will be approx 4-5pm finish time at orange)
All welcome but bring those climbing legs!

Thanks to everyone who organised the event. A great challenge and a good way to get to know additional members of the club.

The Good Friday Monster is on again in 2018. With the new licensing laws the great Gar Connolly may not be able to make it but I will be leaving from Yellow house at 830 on good Friday. All welcome to join. I think this will be the 5th edition.
I've attempted this 3 years I a row and have yet to do the full route(bailed out on Turlough Hill) However it has always been one of the best spins of the year for me since joining Orwell.
Something for everyone, the racers can stretch their legs and have a rare cake and coffee. The sportive gang can get a great workout in prep for WW200, L'Etape and Marmotte etc.

Anyone who doesn't fancy the full route is welcome to do as much or as little as they want. Plenty of coffee stops in Laragh make the day a real treat. I dare anyone to break my record of 6 coffees.

See the info below from the creator Gar.

'Come one come all.... The monster is back.

This is the springs toughest training day on the planet and is strictly and dark yellow orange and red spin.

Meet at 830am yellow house.
Then the route is cruagh featherbeds sally gap laragh for lunch. Then it's up shay Elliot sliabh Mann Brown Mountain then back over Shay Elliot.
If weather allows its up Wicklow gap and up to turlough hill and then back to laragh. After that it's glenmacnass sally gap featherbeds home.

145km and 2800m approx
It will be 4-5pm before you get home.
If you're aiming at the w200 or any tough spin this year this is a serious training spin that could be for you. However it's a tough day out so think about whether you're up for it this early in the year.
All welcome to slay the monster'

I should put in a decent challenge to your 6 coffees Donal if nothing else. So sick of snow at this stage I'd sign up to anything! Looking forward to the challenge...of 6 coffees and not necessarily the Monster. See you then and appreciate you taking up the leadership role this year.

Fair play to you Donal taking up the organising of this.

If you're planning on a Marmotte, Etape etc this year then this is a must do and will get your mountain legs ready for the season. It's also great to toughen the mind, Alpe D'Huez has nothing on Turlough hill in 2.c and ice cold rain!

See you there
