Is there a particular coffee stop in mind for this Sunday's spin to Annamoe? I was going to try tag onto a yellow group there as will be coming from G'stones if one will adopt me:)

Meeting point for Sunday spins.

It will take a couple of weeks to get a smooth system for dispatching Spin groups from the new meeting point.

Following feedback after last Sunday, we would ask that you observe the following:

Do NOT stop/gather on roadways (Taney road, Dundrum road, Main street or the bus/cycle access road).

Please move INSIDE the black bollards, and do not block the footpaths. We would suggest assembling as indicated in the photo.

The dispatcher will call groups onto the path (where people are walking in the photo). Please do not block the path until you are called into a group.

This week riders will be dispatched towards Dundrum Main street.

Please respect the dispatcher - and form groups as asked. Part of the value of Club Winter spins is cycling with different club members, rather than going with the same people every week.

We have moved our start point to this location due to complaints that club members were causing an inconvenience. We don't want to generate a new set of complaints - or give the anti-bike lobby any reason to criticise.

We would just like to reiterate that when on a club group spin, ALL groups adhere to the club rules, and the rules of the road.
As most people are in club kit they are representing the club, and as we all know it does not take much to antagonize motorists.
I had a complaint today about a group of Orwell riders going from Delgany to Kilcoole last Sunday cycling two abreast, which was not too bad but they did say it would be more appropriate to be single file on that narrow stretch.
The main complaint he had was that at one stage he could see three abreast, which is not on.
So when on spins, can cyclists and leaders be mindful of groups holding up traffic and always avoid cycling three abreast .

Thanks for the feedback regarding the route on Sunday 28th Jan.

The first part of yesterdays spin follows the start of the Orwell 200 route.
While this is useful practice for yellow riders considering that event, it is not ideal for white groups. I will do a scrub of the spin routes so that this is not used next year.

I would ask leaders and minders to be aware of the group they are riding with.
Also, as conditions on any given day can change - routes can be varied by agreement to match weather conditions and/or time restrictions.
(Group leaders should always check at the coffee stop - to ensure pace and expected finish time is OK).

Yellow
09:20 start, Speed 22-24kph, Distance: to be updated
Skills: Group skills, increasing distance and average speed. Mandatory coffee stop.

White
09:30 start, Speed 20-22kph, Distance: 50-80km,
Skills: Group skills. Minders on designated dates. Mandatory coffee stop.

The route was changed a couple of days ago based on the 5-day forecast.
The forecast is still iffy for Saturday.

Riders should make their own assessment as to whether they are comfortable heading out.
Leaders and groups should make sensible decisions along the way based on conditions.

It may make sense to cut the route short - and just go to Greystones.
Or head straight home from the coffee stop if the group agrees.

Here is a useful site that gives actual road (and air) temperatures for main roads, updated every 15 minutes or so.

Lets be careful out there!

In light of the current cold snap we will be asking that groups come back on better surface of Ballydonagh Road instead of Ballydonagh Lane.
It is likely to be very cold so people are advised to wrap up warm for the spin.
Enjoy and be careful out there.

Sunday 10th Feb
Route is Laragh via Djouce and Oldbridge. Then home via Roundwood.

As of today Tuesday 5th “Roundwood to Laragh is fine ... We’ve had a bit of rain today, you’ll be grand if you stay away from the GAP”

More rain and temp of up to 8°C later this week - should clear any residual ice.

No plans to change the posted route. Group leaders can vary things on the day. Whites may want to skip the lumpy Oldbridge to Laragh section and go straight to Roundwood.

Yesterday's snow is expected to linger on high ground during the week. Long range forecast predicts temperatures at Sally Gap will be below freezing at times on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

As a result the spin routes file has been changed for Sunday 10th March.

There have been requests for the opportunity to get some climbing in, so without going too high we have proposed

Yelllow:
JD-069-B-Delgany
(JD - Greystones - Delgany - Red Lane - Devils Elbow - Viewing Point - JD)
B routes have between 1000m and 1500m climbing

White:
JD-057-A-Delgany
(JD - Greystones - Delgany - Kilmacanoge - Enniskerry - Glencullen - JD)
A routes have less than 1000m climbing

Winter spins organisers:
We have had a look at the forecast for tomorrow and have decided that in the interest of safety to cancel the official club spins tomorrow.
Met eireann has issued a yellow status warning for country and after last weekend it would not be wise to put people at risk.
People can organise their own spins tomorrow but at their discretion but there is no official spins.

Hi Folks.
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow will be the last winter spin for 2019.
On behalf of the committee we would just like to say thanks to everyone of the ride leaders and dispatchers, without them the spins would not happen over the winter.
This week the weather looks good and the spins will not be too long but there are some hills.
All the routes will be heading for Laragh/Roundwood(routes are on the website)
Please also remember that the clocks go forward tonight.
Winter spins committee
