Lara off to the European Junior/U23 Championships!

We would like to wish the best of luck to Lara Gillespie who is currently on a plane heading to the Czech Republic for the European Junior Championships!

Lara is the only girl on the Irish team of 6 and will compete in both the Time Trial and the Road Race.

The Irish under 23 team has 8 riders with one very familiar name to us - Alexis Roche!

The Schedule is:
Thursday 9am: Junior Women's TT

Friday 1pm: Under 23 Men's TT

Saturday 11am: Junior Women's Road Race

Sunday 1pm: Under 23 Men's Road Race

Best of luck to Lara who takes on the the European Junior Championship TT this morning.

As I type Lara has just finished and recorded a blistering time of 18:09 having caught her minute person.

The last rider is off at 9.42 - we will know final positions by about 10am

Hot off the presses - 17th place for Lara in the TT this morning!

To quote Martin O'Loughlin from Twitter who is with the teams in the Czech Republic - "A strong performance showing huge potential"

Lara will now have a bit of rest before taking on the Road Race on Saturday.

From Martin O’Loughlins twitter feed - Savage course, Starts with a cobbled climb after 200m... Then onto a 3.3km climb with 15% ramps. Race is in bits after 10km. Lara in front group!

Lara gave it a great go today at the European Championships!

Martin O’Loughlin was live tweeting from the race - “Unfortunately, Lara dnf. Dropped chain on the brutal climb and went too deep trying to ride back up through the groups”.

Hard luck Lara but well done! What a performance for a first year Junior. Great effort and we are all very proud of you?
