LEISURE

Starting with Leisure this week as it is the event a huge amount of club members have been training for – WICKLOW 100 and 200!!!

The forecast for Sunday is good which will make the event much more enjoyable but always remember to drink regularly and refill your water bottles when you get a chance!

Some handy information for those taking part:

You have 3 options for registration this weekend:

1. Friday 8th June 4pm – 8pm
Cycle SuperStore

2. Saturday 9th June 11am – 4pm
Cycle SuperStore

3. Sunday 10th June 6am – 8am
Bray Emmets GAA Club

The Wicklow 200 starts at 7am on Sunday morning and the 100 starts at 8am.

Give yourself plenty of time to get to the start – the traffic last year was horrendous and resulted in a lot of people missing the start and their groups. If you live close enough why not cycle to the start?

There is lots of information on the Wicklow 200 website - http://www.wicklow200.ie/2018-event-info/

Leonard also has a great post on the club forum which is a version of the great advice given by Garret Connelly a few years ago on how to get the most out of your day. https://www.orwellwheelers.org/forum/8-miscellaneous-club-chatter/6827-advice-for-a-very-enjoyable-w200#26706

And if you are planning on using the Scott Orwell Wheeler support cars then read this post on the forum - https://www.orwellwheelers.org/forum/8-miscellaneous-club-chatter/6831-w200-100-van-car-support#26716

And of course – Best of Luck to everyone taking part!!

Tuesday 12th - Street Velodrome, Dundrum Shopping Center:

As part of the Bike Week festivities next week there will be a street velodrome set up in Dundrum Shopping Centre . What's a street velodrome you ask? Well this should give you a good idea - http://www.streetvelodrome.co.uk

The organisers have set a slot aside from 4pm to 5pm for the club. Realistically we don't think we can get as many people as they are looking for but we are keen to support it. So if your child and any friends, neighbours , relations etc are interested then please do come along and give it a go.

TRACK:

Wednesday night track league continues every Wednesday. It's a really enjoyable night of hard racing where you can learn how to race on Sundrive Velodrome in a group that suits your ability. Sign-on from 18:20 followed by warm-up, racing starts at 7pm

With 1 week to go in the Spring track league, there are 4 Scott-Orwell riders in with a great chance of winning their category, Katie Reilly and Valdis Anderson are currently lying in 2nd place in the "D" and "A" categories, respectively, and are both very close to first place.  Dmitri Griffin and Caoimhe May are currently leading the "B" and "C1" categories. Good luck to all 4 in the final week!

The Senior Omnium Championships will be held on Saturday 16th at Sundrive velodrome.  Why not come and watch some racing while cheering on your Orwell clubmates? Schedule here: http://www.trackcycling.ie/?p=5878

The men and women teams have begun preparation for the Team Track nationals in August with Orwell team pursuit training sessions down at the track. The next session is this Friday 15th June, give Daniel McElroy or Orla Hendron a shout if you would like to come down.

One for the Diary!

June 20th is the date for the Stephen Roche GP. Please support this brilliant event by either marshalling or racing. There will be races for youths as well as seniors. This event also has equal prize money for the men and women’s races.

Any of course it is great fun to watch!
