Weather Claims Victory at League Round One

Batterstown, Co. Meath, 21 February 2010

Saturday night’s surprise snow fall failed to thaw sufficiently in time for the Inter Club League pre-season race at Batterstown the following day, forcing a last minute cancellation that disappointed the 72 riders and four marshals who signed on at the old petrol station.

After a long debate it was decided to run a training spin with riders split into two groups for a fast spin from Batterstown to the Trim roundabout and back, a total of 36km.

Run off at a pace that few will have been able to differentiate from racing level, the Limit/Semi Limit group had no problem holding off the Semi Scratch/Scratch group with several Orwell jerseys prominent in front and clearly eager for a quick upgrade.

All riders who signed on were awarded five points. The next round is at Brittas on Thursday April 8th at 7pm. For a full calendar of league races see here. Please note that the race initially listed for 27th May will now take place on May 20th due to a clash with the FBD Ras which takes place from 23rd to 30th May.

The league table after round one is here.

Next round: 8th April, Brittas.
