Coffee Stop's Late Charge
More than 60 club members and friends converged at Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Dundrum on Tuesday evening to do battle over nine testing rounds of ten questions as well as a popular cycling quiz.
Behind in the points total with three rounds to go, Denis Gleeson's tourists showed the value of saving your best 'til last as they swept to the front in the penultimate round and held their nerve in the final sprint to the line, scooping a modest cash prize and significant bragging rights for the next 12 months.
After leading for much of the night Eddie Lynch’s 'Fearless Freds' were pipped at the post for victory in the main quiz but his table scooped two of the main prizes in the post event raffle which boasted a prize fund gathered up by Aideen Collard which would rival a TV game show.
There were many other winners on the night but the biggest winner of all was Michelle Geoghegan for whom more than €1,000 was raised on the night to go towards her living expenses in her first international racing season.
