Declan Byrne showed no ill effects from several weeks off racing as he sprinted in for third place at the end of Thursday’s Inter Club league Round 8

Byrne kept his fitness honed with a week’s training with a club in Spain during his holidays and showed his experience as he picked his way through the large group on the run to the new finish line used at the end of two laps of the ‘Green Sheds’ circuit.

On a perfect night for racing, the Semi Scratch Group caught the Semi Limit group on lap one and collected the Limit group late on lap two. The Scratch group got to within thirty seconds mid way round lap two but just failed to get in contention for the sprint which was won by Alan Dunne from Lucan CRC club mate Brian Reynolds.

Ian O’Keefe produced a trademark final kick to get up for fourth with Romano Morelli credited with joint fifth in the blanket finish.

Pat Conlon tried his luck with a late attack which came to nought but the star rookie nonetheless moved back into the lead of the league while Ciara Kinch takes the lead in the women's classification.

There is no race next week due to the FBD Rás so the next round of the Inter Club league is a Handicap in Brittas on the following week.
