Racing Roundup

Having shrugged off the effects of a crash in Donore two months ago, Long has recorded some great results and seems to be hitting a rich seam of form as the Mayo Youth Tour and the championships approach.

Andrew Sower joined his clubmate in the prizes with a fine fifth place finish.

In club racing, Pat Conlon’s impressive victory in last week’s DMS in Brittas means the Orwell rookie carries a one-point lead over Paul Dolan of the Usher Irish Road Club into the 14th round of the inter club league in Batterstown.

Conlon has earned an upgrade to scratch for his impressive performance in taking two wins from the last two road races in the league but he’ll have to wait to make his debut with the fast group as he is scheduled to marshal Thursday’s handicap race.

Meanwhile Conlon’s absence from Sunday’s Mark Hayden Memorial open racing in Carlow gave his employer Dave Tansey the opportunity to shine, the Docket recording his first open race placing for a couple of seasons with fifth place in the A4 race. Peter Kileen was 8th in the same race showing the value of his busy racing programme this season, not to mention the purchase of a new Colnago lately!
