Tom Blennerhassett crowns an excellent first season of racing when he joins the four person Team Boards.ie/Wheelworx squad for the non-stop 1350 mile race which gets under way for teams next Tuesday at 8pm.

Blennerhassett joins McNally Swords riders Peter and Aidan Doyle and triathlete Kevin Leavy for the daunting challenge.

The riders will be supported by a crew that includes Orwell members Caroline Martinez, Mick Hanley and John Latham, the latter named having switched to support duties after a recurring back injury forced him to give up his place on the riding strength. Meanwhile enthusiastic Orwell randonneur John Twomey will also be on the start line in Navan on Tuesday as part of an eight man Team Youghal outfit.

Youghal native Twomey will be part of a team raising funds for the Emer Casey foundation, a charity dedicated to providing funding to the DISOVARY consortium to secure the best independent research to detect the early signs of Uterine/Ovarian cancer.

Twomey’s participation is part of his preparations for a planned assault on the Race Across America next year.
