Orwell Wheelers is hosting a barbecue on Tuesday, May 15 to coincide with the last night of the Women’s Criterium League that will act as a fundraiser for this year’s Rás team.

The barbecue will take place a the Blue Light pub in Sandyford from 8pm. Entry is €10 for adults and €5 for children, with an “all you can eat” policy for hungry cyclists.

Entertainment on the night will include a raffle and the Rás team doing a TT on a monkey bike around a 300 metre course in the car park. Team members have promised to do this in full time trial kit, including skin suits and helmets.

The night will also mark the last round of another successful Women’s Criterium League and will feature prize giving for the league. Orwell’s Patricia Buckley currently holds the league leader’s jersey and will be keen to defend it on the last night of racing. Another entertaining evening of racing is on the cards and anyone thinking of going to the barbecue would be missing out if they didn’t check out the Criterium in Sandyford beforehand.

The An Post Rás is the premier event on the Irish racing calendar, attracting all the top domestic teams to compete against a strong selection of international squads. After an absence of two years, the club will once again be sending a strong team to this year’s Rás. Sending a squad to the Rás is an expensive operation and any help the club can provide will be greatly appreciated by the team.
