Orwell League, Round 2, Limit/Semi Limit

Being upgraded is a positive, right! I have been upgraded before, it was Limit to Semi Limit and I felt like a fraud, 5 of us in a glorious breakaway only to be swallowed up on the last corner of Corkagh Park (actually might have been the last lap but you get the point), no win, no placing but an upgrade.

Arrived on Wednesday night, miserable weather, wet track, small numbers as to be expected, off we went chasing limit, into third wheel and follow, soon found myself off the front, with two others I think, however that was shortly just myself and Martin Holmes working together, pulling out a gap, closing limit. Noticed I had distanced Martin, ‘mmm a bit early do I wait or go’, legs were good, limit bunch were catchable, plus three had broken away, and I knew one was Tommy Scanlon. Decision made, off I went, past the limit group up to the breakaway, straight by at pace to see who of the three would grab the wheel, half a lap, check behind, yep someone there; lap, check behind, still on my wheel, check pace, another half lap, Paul Forristal takes over then Tommy, now we’re working a few more laps and as we go by start/finish Dick shouts out “big gap” another few laps and it’s no longer a gap, we are catching Semi Limit!

Dick calls “two laps”, I’m thinking ‘damm, can we not have longer’ I’m absolutely loving this. Last lap Paul is on the front, Tommy on my wheel, decided to go before last corner as felt comfortable every time I followed my companions up the hill (plus have no idea if I have a good sprint), past Paul around corner, onto incline, crunch sound behind, don’t look just go. Dick shouts “winner” nice to hear that once in my 48 years! Tommy was down, a coming together getting on my wheel.

Upgraded for a Win, now that’s the way to do it.
