Stephen McNally’s great season on the track continued in familiar fashion at Sundrive Road last Saturday as Orwell’s reigning European Masters Pursuit Champion won the Cycling Ireland Veterans Omnium Championship.

McNally took victory in the event for the second time in three years, and the second from two attempts, as he cruised to the relatively comfortable margin of six points having topped the table in two of the five events.

In windy conditions, the Dunboyne based rider won his specialist event, the 2km Pursuit which kicked off the day’s action, and bookended a great day’s racing with a comfortable win in the 500m time trial.

In between he finished second in the 200m time trial, finished fourth in the scratch race and topped the table in the points race.

World Masters Points race Champion Orla Hendron continued to fine tune her form for the Masters World Championships in Manchester next month with seventh place overall in the event. McNally is also targeting the world’s in Mancheseter where the duo will be joined by Aideen Collard.
