Clare Dillon, Aine Kelly, and Aine Reilly on the podium at Corkagh Park
Last Tuesday played host to the final race of the Corkagh Park women’s lLeague for 2024. As expected, this years league brought another exciting and challenging ten races which took place between June - August. The Orwell ladies were competitive in every race across the league, with at least one podium every week.
The final league standings yielded a fantastic result for the Orwell ladies who had a clean sweep on the podium, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd!
Congratulations to Aine Reilly who was 2nd overall. Taking the podium at several races, she proved herself as one of the strongest sprinters this year.
Congratulations to Clare Dillion who was 3rd overall. Clare, coming from triathlon, joined Orwell wheelers only a few weeks ago. A powerhouse on the front, Clare has very exciting prospects if she continues to race next year!
Congratulations to Aine Kelly who was 1st overall. With several wins over the league, an extra award as ‘Most Combative Rider’ was no surprise.
Congratulations too to Louise O'Riordan who started the league as a B rider, and after a number of fantastic results was promoted to the A race.
A deserving recipient of the ‘Spirit of Corkagh Park Award’ was given to Orwell rider Marijka Beltman. Congratulations to Marijka who frequently sacrificed her own race to teach and guide new riders on race tactics and dynamics.
Last but not least, a massive thank you to Orwell member and rider Josephine Lynch, who raced several races, but who also played a double act as the Corkagh park rep for the women’s commission. Josephine had full responsibility for the running of the Corkagh Park Women's League.
